A Narrow Living Room Reimagined; ORC WK 8 – The Reveal

Today’s the day!  It’s finally time for the reveal.  Amidst a global pandemic and a national civil rights movement, hundreds of bloggers, designers, and decor enthusiasts have been transforming spaces, bringing a bit of beauty and joy into their homes.  Though the One Room Challenge was delayed and prolonged, we chugged along and are celebrating our progress together!

As a reminder, links to my previous posts as well as featured designers and guest participant link-ups are at the bottom of this post.  Be sure to click around and see all of the creativity and talent shared during this challenge.  Many thanks to Linda and the One Room Challenge Team, as well as Better Homes and Gardens, the media partner.

I’ll also share links to products at the bottom of this post.

Before

As a reminder, our narrow living room was a blank slate when we moved in.

After

Following much deliberation and experimentation, I came up with a plan to for this room to feel polished and welcoming, as it’s right off our foyer. But also comfy and functional, as it’s our main living space.  Shall we take a look? [Reveal photos by Anagram Photo.  Thanks, Anna!]

The built-ins add a huge dose of architectural interest, as well as storage, in this blank rectangle of a room.  And, the window seat is now a favorite spot for our girls to curl up with a book.

It turns out the roman shade is the perfect solution for this window.

I had fun with the embellishments and trims in this space.  The rich velvet trim on the performance velvet chair feels luxurious and inviting.

Our custom sectional is everything I thought it would be and more!  I usually claim the spot in the corner, though pulling the ottoman up creates a cozy chaise-ish feel, too.

Since I couldn’t find what I was looking for in an ottoman, I commissioned my upholsterer to create one.  It was such fun to design from scratch.  I just love the vibrancy of the color and the scallop detail.  All of these upholstery fabrics are performance, so I don’t have to worry about smudges and spills.

The picture rail may be my favorite moment in the room.  It allows me to switch art easily, and offers a unique, linear framework.

I stumbled on this gorgeous leather side table at a warehouse sale, and snatched it right up.  It was quite a steal, now that I see the retail cost! $$$$ (It’s linked below.)

My husband’s grandmother’s silver dish holding my grandmother’s culinary clam shells make for unique and meaningful decor.

This old pine desk reins as one of my favorite furniture purchases ever.  Charlotte curates the best pieces at Union Camp Collective!

More fab vintage finds here…the lovely vase and the pair of bamboo lamps came from the Green Chair Project.

Our Frame TV has proven to be a fantastic investment.  With the gold leaf frame and a stunning image from Juniper Print Shop, it’s a show stopper!

And, that’s a wrap, folks!  Now for sinking into the sofa with a glass of wine to enjoy our new room. Cheers!
