In light of the continued atrocities and unjust practices against people of color in our nation, this week’s One Room Challenge is paused. Content will resume next week.
One of the principles our girls learn at school is to seek first to understand. In our home, we are taking time to educate ourselves on our own implicit biases. We are educating ourselves on how our inherent privileges affect what we do and how we are perceived. We are looking for ways to support the black community personally and professionally.
I have a growing list of resources to explore. If you’re looking for a place to start, here are a few.
- Curious about the depth of your own implicit bias? Take this Harvard quiz to explore.
- The White Family’s Guide to Talking About Racism – an online discussion guide
- The Unweaving – an anti-racism workshop, with readings and action steps sent to your inbox each week
- Brownicity offers several anti-racism courses/studies. Their journal & guide, What Lies Between Us looks fantastic.
- Just Mercy – a box office film (and book) based on a true story
- Throughline – American Police – 60 minute podcast episode
- 3 in 30 – Episode 101 Why and How to Talk to your Kids About Skin Tone and Race 30 minute podcast episode
- Code Switch – podcast – all episodes explore race
May we all pause to learn and reflect so we may move forward with helpful actions, peacefully and lovingly.
