Today’s the day, folks! It’s reveal day for this round of the One Room Challenge. I’ve shifted a bit of my focus from client work to my own home (as I’m so grateful the ORC encourages me to do.)
We are so very excited in the Holcombe House to have Elsie’s room all done! It’s now one of my personal favorite rooms, and a spot we all want to play and read and chill in. A big thanks to the incredible Cat Nguyen for taking the gorgeous reveal images.
Before we dig into those, let’s take a look at what the room looked like before.

As a quick reminder, we rearranged, painted the walls, used a lot of what we had, and added in some fun new features. I refinished my grandparent’s cherry dresser, dreamed up and created a cozy reading tent, DIYed a handful of elements, and added in some fun art and bedding.

It’s a really generously sized room at 15×18′, and allows for a pair of twin beds with room to spare. Perfect for sister play and sleepovers!
Elsie picked out this adorable color chart print from Juniper Print Shop (from my curated suggestions, TBH), and I’m so in love with the graphic punch it gives to the room! The other art is a collection of vintage finds, family photos, and digital prints.
The collection of bedding and the benches offer a graphic mix of patterns, just the way I like it.
Her desk offers a place to color, journal, and craft. I wanted to incorporate meaningful but functional pieces…the silver baby cup belonged to my father-in-law, the violin was mine as a child (and Elsie plays now), the photo series of three generations of babes-in-dads-palms brings us all joy.
Opposite the beds is the labor of love that is my grandparents’ dresser. I refinished it and swapped out the pulls to bring it back to life.
And finally, the piece de resistance: the tent! It creates a cozy little room within a room (when the sides are let down) to retreat from the world and dig into a book or play a game with a friend. The plug-in sconce – turned pendant – was the perfect light to add function and texture to the spot.
