One Room Challenge: Powder Room Reveal (Week 6)

This is it!  The day has finally come to share the photos of our Powder Room Reveal.  Woo hoo! It’s been such a fun experience following along with the other guests and featured designers as they make incredible transformations.  I have to say I’m glad I chose a tiny room (16 square feet to be exact) for this challenge, as I can see how overwhelming larger spaces are for a short 6 week time frame.  I am hoping to participate in the fall challenge as well, but to tackle a larger room…perhaps our master bedroom?  To recap my progress, check out these posts:

A HUGE thank you goes to Cat Nguyen, who took these incredible photos. I’m so grateful she could, as my limited photography skills were definitely stretched by this small space.

Enough chit chat.  Let’s get to it!  I’ll list sources at the bottom of this post.  As a quick reminder, here’s where we started:

I love the idea of a tiny little room that packs a punch.  If you’re going to stretch yourself design-wise, the powder room is the perfect place to take some risks.  I chose a fun, colorful wallpaper with a white background, as to not contrast (highlight) the sink and toilet too much.

The cobbler mirror was an incredible find at a consignment shop.  This shop carries some items handmade by local artisans, which I believe was the case with this piece.

The vase with the dogwood branch was from my grandmother’s collection, and is a sweet reminder of her.  The subtle brown shades are a nice contrast to all of the color and movement in the room.

After a failed attempt at sink skirt number one (it was a bit too “home-ec”), this one turned out beautifully.  I sewed a sleeve along the top to house tiny but strong magnets, which hold the skirt in place.  The inverted pleats reveal the hint of blue and hide the split in the panels.

The first aid box and a rolling cart hide a few necessities and back-up TP.

The graphic print below adds a nice dose of quiet to the busy wallpaper, and the message is one I am happy to be reminded of regularly.

A simple woven shade provides texture and privacy when needed.

At first I tried a more detailed vintage pendant light, but switched to this super simple globe pendant, to allow the wallpaper and mirror to shine.  I love the hint of brass and the retro shape.

The deep inky blue on the ceiling adds a layer of depth and interest.
