Client Journal: Fresh and Cozy Living Room and Breakfast Nook

Client: A busy, fun family with teens, ready for a fresh and cozy living room and breakfast nook

Space: Living Room and Breakfast Nook

Functional Objective: These clients loved their deep, comfy leather sofa, but wanted to finish the room and bring in additional seating that would look polished, yet comfortable.  They requested a loveseat, which we covered in a structural pattern of stripes and kept the chairs neutral.  The switches by the door were positioned at a low height, so in order to keep those accessible, we strategically chose the lovely, open shelving piece to display their mementos and stash necessities by the door, while still leaving space to access the switches.

Aesthetic Objective:  For the window treatments in the gorgeous, light-filled space, we had custom drapes made in a lightweight pinstripe cotton blend to provide light filtration and privacy.  The tailored look brightens the space and the drapes function beautifully with long wands for opening and closing.  In the adjacent breakfast nook, we continued the same pattern on the window treatments and chose deep charcoal dining chairs and a black stain for the wood table to repeat some of the dark tones from the living space.  In the living area, we used a cotton flat weave rug, which is quite soft and inviting. In the the dining area, we chose a more contemporary, synthetic (read: easy to clean!) rug.
