Client Journal: A Unique and Welcoming Foyer

Client: A vibrant young family making this new-to-them house a home

Space: A large two-story foyer.

Functional Objective: To offer a spot to sit for lacing shoes, to create a small landing zone for guests’ purses and keys, and to display mementos, The family also wanted to add softness and friction to the stairs for safety.

Aesthetic Objective: This family has a treasure trove of folk art from around the world, as well as mementos passed down through generations.  They were looking to thoughtfully utilize those to evoke a personal and welcoming feel upon entry.

Highlights: For this unique and welcoming foyer, we opted to warm up the foyer with subtle texture on the walls. to highlight the wall art without distraction.  We sourced this small scale graphic paper in a soft neutral to do just that.  The  cut-pile stair runner adds function and softness to the space.  We had this bench made in a stunning fabric woven in England.  The bold blue and red pop against the wallpaper and flow beautifully with the antique rug and wall art.
