Bold or Serene?

Recently I came up with a couple of looks for a client’s family room.  Clarissa is fun and energetic, and she and her husband are in the process of moving her young family here from out of state.  She had already chosen a new rug, sofa, and wall color, and wants to use an existing coffee table and some decorative oars.  I was called in to help choose throw pillows, side chairs, and finishing touches.  She has an open concept floor plan, so this space needs to flow with her kitchen, dining, and entryway.

Because of her busy schedule, most of this was done via email.  She sent photos of her existing pieces.  Here is a mood board showing what we started with:

Lately I’ve been drawn to really bright, eclectic pieces, so here is the first look I pulled together, with a collected, bohemian vibe:

I love it when communication is clear with a client, and luckily Clarissa quickly told me this look was too bold for her.  I came up with a much more muted, serene look:

She really liked this soothing, cool palette, and seemed excited to pull it together.  I’m really excited to see the room come together, and I’ll be sure to share a photo of the finished product once everything is in place and her family is settled.

Do you tend to go for more vibrant, bold colors, or softer muted hues?  I’d love to hear!

If you need a little help pulling a space together, I would love to help out!  I provide inspiration boards like those above, tailored to your space, as well as a list of sources to make your purchasing super easy.  Send me an email!
